The Joys of Fatherhood

I’ve had many thoughts about being a father. Sometimes I wonder if my prayers would fall short of God’s ear, because the words are often sent disjointed, reluctant and trembling with fear.
Fear of the unknown, lack of control and bringing a soul home to a place that I don’t even know.
Yes, you are coming to a place where we are all pretending to know what this is. Yet I hold on to hope between clenched fists in anticipation of your becoming.
This world is cruel but beautiful, and sometimes it doesn’t know the difference between a loving heart and a wretched soul. So you won’t always be treated fairly.

I know there is a day out there waiting, hungry for expansion and collecting pain in anticipation of your arrival. It will seek to make an example out of you, but I will arrive with you every step of the way until you can make a destination of yourself.
I will teach you how to make your own clenched fists and go toe to toe with life. You won’t always win but it’ll be enough to get you by.

"Watch me: hands up, elbows in, wide stance, knees bent, sharp breaths.
Jab,
jab,
swing,
duck.
That’s okay, take the blows, punches and throws.
None of us will escape unscathed.
But never you open those fists, unless you have something to give that life can’t take."
